Transparency
How we operate, how we are funded, and how we maintain independence.
Stated plainly, because you should know what pays for something you are reading for free, and how we draw the line between our client work and our editorial decisions.
How this work is funded
Client work
Client work is our primary source of revenue. Organizations sometimes discover us through our documentation and choose to work with us, but becoming a client has no effect on our editorial decisions or technical recommendations.
Advertising
Advertising is clearly identified and kept separate from editorial content. Advertisers have no influence over what we publish, how we evaluate technologies, or the conclusions we reach.
Sponsored content
We do not publish paid reviews, sell placement in our guides, or present vendor copy as editorial content.
Policies & Independence
Disclosure
If an article discusses a product or service we provide, we disclose that relationship. Our editorial decisions are based on evidence and published standards, not commercial interests.
Conflicts of interest
Commercial relationships do not influence our technical guidance, benchmark results, or recommendations. Where a potential conflict exists, we disclose it.
Affiliate relationships
We do not currently participate in affiliate programmes. If that changes, we will disclose it both on this page and within any affected content.
Use of AI
We use AI as a research and drafting aid where appropriate, but published guidance is reviewed, edited, and approved by a human before publication.
Copyright & Licensing
Copyright
Unless otherwise stated, original articles, implementation guidance, designs, and other original content published by Web Specification Studio remain our copyright.
Open standards
Our work builds upon open web standards and the efforts of countless open source projects. We credit those sources wherever they inform our work and encourage readers to consult the original specifications directly. Work that can be checked against public standards is work that can be trusted.
Updates to this page
This page reflects our current funding model and editorial policies. If these change in a way that materially affects readers, we will update this page and note the revision date above.
