To expand what's possible for everyone.
We believe progress begins with understanding. When knowledge is open, practical, and built on real experience, more people can create, solve problems, and expand what's possible. Everything we build and share is guided by that belief.
Where the knowledge comes from
We write from practice, not from summarising other articles. The work we ship is where the material comes from, which is also why teams end up asking us to do the work.
What we document
Implementation guides and reference specifications, plus original DevOps and operations material: the specific numbers, the traces, the approaches that failed. Checked against primary standards, versioned, and corrected in public.
What we build
Our own products, and client software for teams who care how it works underneath. Performance budgets, accessibility conformance, delivery pipelines, and technical SEO are built in rather than retrofitted. This is the work the guides are written from.
Six commitments, on every build and every page
Standards before frameworks
The platform outlives the tooling. We establish what the specification guarantees first, then how today's tools implement it.
Evidence before opinion
Field data, traces, and reproducible tests. If we cannot measure it, we do not claim it.
Performance by default
Budgets agreed before the first commit, enforced in CI, and measured on real devices rather than lab scores.
Accessibility is non-negotiable
WCAG 2.2 criteria checked at the markup level, with keyboard and screen reader passes before anything ships.
Corrections are public
Every material change to live guidance is logged with a revision note. No silent edits, no quiet deletions.
Open by default
Work you can check is work you can trust. Every claim traces back to the source specification.

Open & Independent
Our core web and email specifications are adapted from the open-source project The Website Specification by Joost de Valk and contributors, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Our DevOps library and Studio Standards are original creations developed directly by our studio team. Work that can be checked is work that can be trusted.
We fund the studio primarily through client work and premium products (though a core version always remains free). Our editorial decisions are independent of clients and advertisers.
Careers
We value curiosity, openness, and thoughtful collaboration. If those are values you share, we'd love to hear from you.
Have a product that has to hold up under scrutiny?
Bring us the build. We apply the same practices documented across our reference work: performance, accessibility, security, delivery, and technical SEO.
